FITNESS TO PRACTICE |
Regulating and improving the practice of Opticians to ensure quality professional care for all Nova Scotians is the responsibility of the Nova Scotia College of Dispensing Opticians. One way to meet this responsibility is to investigate and process information alleging professional misconduct, conduct unbecoming, professional incompetence, incapacity and offences against the Dispensing Opticians Act. This professional accountability process is set out in the Dispensing Opticians Act and Regulations.
The Fitness to Practice (FTP) process is one part of the College’s professional accountability process. It is a means of dealing with matters involving the possible incapacity of a registrant when it is determined to be consistent with the public interest being served. The following is the Nova Scotia College of Dispensing Opticians professional Fitness to Practice policy.
