Once you have passed the NACRO exam you will receive notification from NSCDO which will outline the next steps required to be licensed and allow you to practice to the full scope of our provincial legislation. To pass the exam you will require a passing mark of 61% for eyeglasses and 67% for contact lenses. You will be required to complete an Application for License or Registration as either a Dispensing Optician, New Candidate or Contact Lens Fitter, New Candidate. Part of the application is a Certificate of Employer to provide proof you are employed. Also required is confirmation you have Liability Insurance coverage, in the amount of one million dollars, as set by resolution, in the Nova Scotia College of Dispensing Opticians Act. Registration Fee. A fee is required in the amount of $200.00 as outlined below. Payment can be made by cheque, money order or credit card. You can also make payment by credit card by providing your information and authorizing NSCDO to charge your credit card with a credit card authorization form. With this authorization a payment request can be emailed to you with a secure link to complete credit card payment.
